Halloween, Served Compass Style
Spooky sips and wicked good vibes. That was the caption, and it undersold the decorations. Compass poured a Halloween party in Short Hills on Friday, October 30, the night before Halloween, at a house that went all in: glowing ghosts on the patio, a towering clown by the back door, a candy table with a skull and a Spooky sign, and fall leaves doing the rest. The bar fit right in.
It was the second North Jersey stop of the fall, a week after the Far Hills race day after party, and the first real Halloween party on the books since we published the Halloween party guide. The guide said a themed menu gets built with the host. Here is what that looked like in practice.
Pick Your Poison

The bar went up on the back patio dressed for the night: a black Pick Your Poison sign with a skull across the front, a framed Happy Halloween menu on top, a pumpkin pail at the end, and three ghosts glowing beside it as the light went down. Halloween is the one night where the bar is part of the decor, and this one played the part.
A House That Went All In
Some hosts hang a few cobwebs. This host built a set. When the decor is this committed, the bar should look like it belongs, and the job is to match the theme down to the menu board frame. That is the same thinking behind the wizard party and every themed menu Compass builds: the bar is part of the party, not a station off to the side of it.
If you are already planning next October, or a themed party of any kind before then, the Halloween party guide covers the setup and the booking calendar, and the alcohol calculator does the drink math.
